The Cobalt Vase
Blue glass glistens
As a glint of sun illuminates its form
Then permeates,
Reflects, refracts, and radiates
Rich hues.
It shines as if alive.

Painting and sculpture stand side by side to entice, stimulate and mystify the beholder.
The subtlety of Meiji bronzes vie with ancient and 19th century French figural bronzes to captivate our senses.

Cezanne's Ports
In the foreground we see time and life
swept in a race
toward the left hand side of the picture
where shore meets shore.
But that meeting place
isn't represented;
it doesn't occur on the canvas.
For the other side of the bay
is Heaven and Eternity,
with a bleak white haze over its mountains.
And the immense water of L'Estaque is a go-between
for minute rowboats.

A masterpiece of fabric
A cascading waterfall
Of draping fabric,

Shadowed with sparkling sequins
Shimmering like stars at night!

Qom rugs (Qum, Ghom, Ghum) are made in the Qom Province of Iran, south of Tehran. Although rug weaving in Qom was not a major industry until the past 100 years, the luxurious silk and wool rugs of Qom are known for their high quality and are regarded among the world’s most expensive.
I love silver’s useful practicality and lustrous beauty. Initially, I loved the complex and ornate pieces, then increasingly fell for the elegant and simple. The mixture of the old and the new, the ornate and the simple capture the extraordinary craftsmanship of centuries ago and now.
I especially enjoy the warmth of early silver fused over copper, Sheffield Plate, the superb craftsmanship of Meiji, American aesthetic, and 19th Century French silver.
Silver
Silver is a wonderful element,
A fierce wonder, much honoured;
And its help is great, forever,
And forever. I give in to silver.
For silver I take the number of days
To be many for the occupation of mine.
The silvered men and women
Are never the forgotten people;
So choose silver, and wise are you.
Silver is the best metal
Too hard to possess.
